City impress in Schalke win

Benjani and Stephen Ireland scored a goal in each half to give Manchester City a precious UEFA Cup victory at Schalke.

Benjani opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when he fired home a cross from Daniel Sturridge before Ireland put the issue beyond doubt in the 67th minute.

The result lifted City, who were playing without injured striker Robinho, to the top of Group A and gave them a brilliant chance of reaching the next round.
