Vokes spares Wales' blushes

Teenager Sam Vokes marked his first appearance at the Millennium Stadium with a goal to give Wales a deserved 1-0 victory in the opening game of their World Cup qualifying campaign against Azerbaijan.

The 18-year-old Wolves striker, winning only his third cap, scored from close range after a frustrating day for Wales.

Jason Koumas had seen a penalty saved and Azerbaijan had been reduced to 10 men when Fabio Luis Ramim had been sent off in the second period.
