Hughes heartache

A late missed conversion by Gerywn Hughes saw Grasshoppers crash out of the EDF Energy Senior Vase 21-19 to Enfield Ignations on Saturday.

Three penalties from Hughes was all Gs could muster before the break.

But Matt Dawson grabbed their first try after the break with an effort perhaps even his World Cup-winning namesake would have been proud of.

Enfield hit back, but Andy Quinn touched down for Gs to cut Enfield's lead to two points.

But in windy conditions, Hughes' conversion, which would have pulled Gs level, was missed. And so too were two long-range penalties in the dying minutes as Gs bowed to their fate.
