ATHLETICS Grand day for Pryer

Helen Pryer came home from the McCain UK Challenge on Saturday a grand better off.

The Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow AC sprinter landed £1,250 Golden Challenge prize money after winning the women's 200m at her home ground in 23.67 secs.

However,it was some way short of the her personal best, the Thames Valley Athletics Centre record of 23:29 she set last month.

Pryer said: "I would have liked to have gone under my PB, because that would have meant a little bit more money, but I'm still pleased with what I've achieved today.

"I think the UK Challenge Final is a brilliant idea, and for those people who didn't make it to the Olympics, it's the next step up to aspire too."

Another WSEH sprinter,Dawn Wilson, was almost a clear second ahead of the rest of the field in winning the 400m in 54:96.

She said: "I had a terrible start, sat in my blocks for a while. "I'm getting a bit tired now it's the end of the season, but I was really happy with the second half of the race and I came through strongly.

"It's a real bonus to pick up some prize money going into the my final race of the season and winter training."

WSEH's Julian Golley (15.99m) and Rosie Semeytsh (47.25m) also came close to glory in the long jump and javelin respectively.
