CYCLING Gilmour pushes for sub-four hour 100

Rob Gilmour kept up his good form at the North Middlesex & Herts CA 100 on Sunday.

The Hounslow & District Wheelers rider completed the course in 4:4.17 hours, forcing his way into the top 10.

His halfway time of 1:58.18 suggest Gilmour is within sight of the four-hour benchmark for 100 miles, the target for all ambitious middle-distancers.

In fact, the four-hour mark has some poignancy for Hounslow riders. It was first breached with Ray Booty's 3:5.28 on the Bath Road in 1956. Although sub-four hour 100s are now commonplace among elite riders in the prime of their life,it would be some achievement for a rider in his 60s like Gilmour.

He came 10th overall among 70 competitors around the roads of Tempsford, Bedfordshire, in the North Middlesex & Herts ride.
