ATHLETICS Hannah steps it up

Having taken the Middlesex Championships by storm, Isleworth athlete Hannah Pollak moved up a step to the South of England U20 Championships last weekend.

The county 800m champion ran a personal best of 2:18.09 mins in the heats, but ended her debut by finishing fourth in the final.

However, some of her more experienced Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow AC teammates came home with medals, landing two golds, seven silvers and three bronzes for the club.

Alan McKie took gold in the senior men's high jump with his effort of 2.15m, as did Joanna John in the senior women's hammer, throwing 54.72m.

The silvers went to senior men Callum McKay in the hurdles and Julian Golley in the triple jump, senior women Karlene Turner in the triple jump and Rose Semenytsh in the javelin, plus U20 men Max Galliers in the 100m, Nathan White in the 5,000m and Daniel Pembroke in the javelin.

Alistair Moses, Henrietta Kodilinye-Sims and Jenny Heckford also took home bronze - in the senior men's 5,000m, senior women's 400m and U20 womens 100m hurdles respectively.

Meanwhile, WSEH's young guns are set for top spot and an undefeated season in the National Young Athletes League Southern Premier Division.

Another victory at Norwich last weekend left them in top spot and with one match to go, and virtually assured of a place in the final at Manchester on September 7.
