Chesterfield 2-0 AFC Wimbledon
AFC WIMBLEDON stretched their winless run to four games at Chesterfield this afternoon.
The Dons failed to make an impression at the Proact Stadium and remain rock bottom and in real trouble in League Two.
Neal Ardley made just one change to the side that was beaten at table-topping Port Vale on Tuesday night as Toby Ajala was replaced by Stacy Long in midfield.
Chesterfield had most of the early chances as former Arsenal starlet Mark Randall looked threatening in the centre of the park and forcing Neil Sullivan into two decent stops.
However, Spireites manager Paul Cook was left frustrated in the dugout as Marc Richards had to come off on 20 minutes and was replaced by experienced frontman Jack Lester.
Gary Alexander, looking to add to his debut strike seven days earlier, tried to get Wimbledon rocking and tried his luck from outside of the area.
That effort sailed harmlessly over the bar and the Dons trudged off at half-time having failed to trouble Chesterfield shot-stopper Tommy Lee in the first 45 minutes.
Both sides made changes at the interval as Ardley withdrew last season's top marksman Jack Midson and brought on Toby Ajala and Cook shuffling his pack again by swapping ex-Gunner Randall with Armand Gnanduillet.
And the half-time Spireites substitute made his mark on the hour as he found the top corner to give Chesterfield the lead after being put through by Danny Whitaker.
Sammy Moore and on-loan West Ham striker Paul McCallum were thrown on by the Dons in an attempt to rescue the points but Lester added a second late on to wrap up the win for the hosts.
