ALL the Sunday papers have given it to Stacy Long (pictured), but Jack Midson insists he should be credited with the goal which earned a point for the Dons at Barnet.
Long's drive from outside the area took a deflection off Midson, who told the Chronicle his intervention was deliberate. “I'm claiming that one. Hopefully the replays will show I flicked it in off my heel.”
Whoever the goal belongs to, the point for AFC Wimbledon could prove a crucial stepping stone for better things according to Midson, who had a loan spell at Barnet last season when he was on Oxford's books.
“I feel our form's been up and down but we're making good progress, and we showed good fight to come back from 1-0 down,” he said.
“It was a bottom of the league clash. We don't want to be there, but we're there for a reason and we need more consistency. We've had no more than a couple of wins on the trot and that's not good enough.
“But every team has a run and I don't think ours has come yet. Maybe this will put us on the right track. We need to get a run going.”
Midson added that the style of play remains important, though: “There's a lot of route one football in this league, but we don't want to just boot it up to the final third,” he said. “We want to play football in the right areas.”
