Chesterfield 2-3 Brentford
BRENTFORD ended the season on a high with a comfortable win at the B2net Stadium.
Josh Thompson's own goal, coupled with second-half strikes from Toumani Diagouraga and Clayton Donaldson, earned the points for the visitors, who finish the season in ninth place.
The Bees took the lead on 12 minutes when Thompson – under pressure from Leon Legge - glanced Sam Saunders' free-kick into his own net.
Donaldson dragged an effort wide while Saunders also went close as the visitors looked to add to their lead before the break.
The visitors did find a second just before the hour make when Diagouraga exchanged passes with Saunders before firing home from 12 yards.
However, the hosts halved the deficit 10 minutes later when Franck Moussa lashed the ball past Simon Moore from the edge of the box after Scott Boden's shot cannoned back off the post.
Chesterfield pushed for an equaliser, and Brentford had Moore to thank for keeping their lead intact when he dived spectacularly to deny Craig Westcarr.
But the Bees wrapped up the points when Donaldson bundled home substitute Jake Reeves' corner on 80 minutes.
Mark Allott's blockbuster pulled another one back in stoppage-time, but it was too little, too late for the doomed hosts.
BEES: Moore, Logan, Dean, Legge, Balkestein, Forrester (Morrison 63), Douglas, Diagouraga, Bidwell (Thompson 86), Saunders (Reeves 77), Donaldson.
