Hounslow cops fall fowl of the law

This is the moment we caught three police officers bang to rights as they parked on a double yellow line to pick up a takeaway.

Our snappers caught them popping into Charcoal Chicken in Staines Road, Hounslow, for a quick refuel yesterday afternoon.

The officers, who emerged with three bags of grub, looked sheepish and declined to comment when approached by one of our reporters.

But their decision to swap the thin blue line for the double yellow line prompted an angry response from passers-by.

Jennifer d' Souza, 55, of Heston: "I think it's wrong. They represent the law and they should practise what they preach. It shouldn't be allowed."

Jures Seudwt, 32, added:  "They are public service officials and should abide by the law.  This is a very busy road, and it's a dangerous place to park."

Under the Highway Code, double yellow lines indicate 'no parking at any time'.

Simon Phipps, Superintendent for Hounslow Borough, said: "I am disappointed that my officers disregarded the parking restrictions in Staines Road yesterday afternoon.

"However I am pleased that they are showing support to local businesses and giving their endorsement to Charcoal Chicken - providing hearty and nutritious snacks to our officers keeping Hounslow safe. I will be speaking to the officers about their parking arrangements."
