Hounslow arrest after man set on fire

Police officer at scene of Staines fire attack

A Hounslow man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was set on fire in an 'horrific and unprovoked' attack.

The victim, who is in his 20s, is fighting for his life in hospital after being doused with flammable liquid and left to burn in a Staines street.

The badly injured man is being treated at a specialist burns unit at Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead, where he is still in a critical condition.

He is too ill to talk to police and they are unable to offer any motive for the callous attack in Templedene Avenue on Saturday at 11.20pm.

The arrest was made shortly after 4pm on Wednesday and was today being interviewed by officers.

Chief Insp Mark Preston-Heard said: “This was an horrific and unprovoked attack on a young man.”

Anyone with information should call Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
